Welcome to the Brill Show 2025
“Oh, what a lovely show!” That’s what so many people say when we gather each September in Brill Memorial Hall - and it’s probably what they’ve been saying since the inaugural Show way back in 1856. And so once again, on Sunday September 14th, residents of all ages from Brill and beyond** will bring their flowers and photographs, cakes and craftwork to the Hall, arrange them in their allocated places and sneak a look at the (friendly) competition. Soon afterwards the room will be cleared for judging - taken very seriously by experts in each class - before the doors open at 2.30pm and we can take our time admiring everyone’s efforts and applauding the deserving winners at the prize giving ceremony at 3.30pm. And if that’s not enough, there’s always the fabulous raffle with generous prizes and the mouth-watering café run by the amazing Saunders sisters (themselves another Brill institution!)
Brill Show really does have something for everyone. With 150 classes (58 just for children) covering fruit and vegetables, flowers, preserves, baking, arts and crafts there will be something you can enter, be it handwriting, a hydrangea bloom or hand-made gin. The secret of success is to plan early; tend your sunflowers, make some jam, look out for photo opportunities, finish that wood carving or piece of sewing. We love our Brill Show stalwarts - some have been entering off and on for fifty years - but we equally love newcomers, young and old. You’ve nothing to lose and every chance of winning a coveted green, yellow or red Brill Show certificate for the mantlepiece - or even a medal or silver cup.
Above all, Brill Show is fun, friendly and very good-natured. In fact, we’ll go as far as to say that Brill Show is good for the soul; solace in difficult times.
See you in September!
**Brill Show is open to residents in the Bernwood Benefice villages of villages of Ashendon, Boarstall, Brill, Chilton, Dorton, Ickford, Ludgershall, Oakley, Piddington, Shabbington, Worminghall and Wotton Underwood.
